Definition
A share trades cum-dividend up to the day before the ex-dividend date, so buyers in that window are entitled to the payout. Once it goes ex-dividend, the entitlement no longer transfers with the shares.
Worked example
Buying a stock the day before it goes ex-dividend means you buy it cum-dividend and receive the payout.
