Central Depository Company (CDC).

The CDC is the institution that holds PSX shares electronically and records who owns them.

Definition

Instead of paper certificates, your shares sit in a CDC account, giving safer custody and faster settlement. You open either a CDC sub-account through a broker or a direct CDC Investor Account for individual custody.

Worked example

When you buy HBL shares, they are credited to your CDC account on the settlement day rather than handed to you as paper.

Capital gain tax
