Glossary · PSX term

Ex-dividend date.

The ex-dividend date is the date from which new buyers are not entitled to the declared dividend. PSX investors watch this date to understand dividend eligibility and price adjustments around payouts.

Definition

If you buy after the ex-dividend date, you normally do not receive that dividend. Share prices can adjust around this date because the cash entitlement has changed.

Worked example

If a stock goes ex-dividend on Monday, investors buying on Monday are typically not eligible for the announced payout.
