Trading volume.

Trading volume is the number of shares traded during a session or period. It helps investors judge liquidity and how much activity sits behind a price move.

Definition

Higher volume usually means it is easier to enter or exit a position, but volume alone does not explain whether the move is good or bad. Compare it with average volume and the related announcement or market context.

Worked example

If a stock usually trades 100,000 shares a day but trades 500,000 today, the move has unusually high activity behind it.
