Glossary · PSX term

Market order.

A market order buys or sells immediately at the best available current price.

Definition

A market order prioritises speed of execution over price, so it usually fills fast but you may get a worse price in a thin or fast-moving market. In illiquid PSX stocks, it can fill at a price far from the last trade.

Worked example

A market buy on a liquid stock like OGDC fills almost instantly near the quoted price.
