Glossary · PSX term

Liquidity.

Liquidity is how easily you can buy or sell a stock without moving its price much.

Definition

Highly liquid stocks trade large volumes with tight bid-ask spreads, while illiquid stocks can be hard to exit, especially in size. On the PSX, blue chips are generally liquid, while many small caps trade thinly.

Worked example

You can usually sell HBL shares instantly near the quoted price, but a thinly traded small cap may take days to exit at a fair price.
