Market halt.

A market halt is a temporary, exchange-wide pause in trading triggered by a large index move.

Definition

Separate from per-stock circuit breakers, the PSX can halt the whole market for a set period if the KSE-30 index moves sharply in one direction. The pause is meant to let investors absorb information and reduce panic-driven trading.

Worked example

If the index falls by a large preset percentage early in the session, the PSX may halt all trading for a cooling-off period.
